Wow time sure can get away from you I can't believe how long its been since I last blogged... Life is just CRAZY for me right now I babysit 4 of my grandkids M-F and also live with and Care for my 83 year old mom who is in bad health... then throw Thanksgiving, Christmas in the mix and we have OH MY GOSH~ I'm sitting her wishing I could take a weeks much needed vacation to a sunny and warm destination... Hey a girl can dream.. cause right now thats all I have are my dreams.. I don't get away from the house very much cause mom can't be left alone.. So I look at the window and DREAM... Brunswick Stew Recipe

This stew is so good and Hearty and wonderful on a cold winter day.... TRY IT
and let me know what you think..
Yield 6 servings
Ingredients
1 (3 1/2) pound broiler-fryer chicken, cut up
1 cup water
4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 medium onions, sliced
1 (15 ounce) can lima beans, rinsed and drained
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
dash cayenne pepper
1 (15.25 ounce) can corn, drained
1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
Directions
1.In a Dutch oven, slowly bring the chicken and water to a boil. Cover and simmer for 45 to 60 minutes or until chicken is tender, skimming the surface as foam rises.
2.Remove chicken and set aside until cool enough to handle. Remove and discard skin and bones. Cube chicken and return to broth.
3.Add the potatoes, onions, beans and seasonings. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Stir in remaining ingredients. Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes or until slightly thickened.

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER - by Erma Bombeck

I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained, or the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have sat on the lawn with my grass stains.

I would have cried and laughed less while watching television and more while watching life.

I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.

When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner." There would have been more "I love you's" More "I'm sorry's."

But mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute...look at it and really see it ... live it and never give it back.STOP SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF!!!

Don't worry about who doesn't like you, who has more, or who's doing what
Instead, let's cherish the relationships we have with those who do love us.

Well the trip is over and I'm worn out... we shopped till we dropped, and ate till we woddled, I got to meet some of the most amazing women on this trip, and I love each one of them so much. Berlin is one of the greatest placed I've ever been too
we found amazing bargains I got muslin advertising feed sacks for 2.00 each a brown moon shine jug for 3.00 a salt glazed crock for 10.00 another old crock for 8.00
it will take a month to find a place to put everything. We had goody bags for each of the girls that were overflowing with amazing donated items, we had giveaways, we laughed till we cried, we talked till we cried.. but onto some picture sharing now.

I will post photos later of some of my goodies later after I open and unwrapped everything.. thanks for stopping by Hugs Diane

CHAPTERS ARE GROWING

The chapters are growing by leaps and bounds we have a few that still need directors
but all in all I'm very pleased with the progress we have made in the past 2 weeks,
the 1st chapter meetings will be held Saturday august 21st. So if you haven't gotten
signed up for a chapter yet do so now so we can get you into a chapter near you and you can join the fun at Meet and Greet. And the location has been chosen for the 1st Annual National convention where all the chapters will come together for alot of
wonderful things that are being planned. It will be held August 19-21 2011 in Lancaster Pennsylvania..Bring your prim friends along with you to the chapters.

Just wanted to post that all the Chapters are coming together GREAT.. This is going to be one of the greatest things I have ever achieved. We do still have a few that needs a Director in place but everything is piecing itself together like an old puzzle. IF you haven't signed up for a Local Chapter Near You.. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR....... This is an awesome opportunity to meet other prim like minded ladies right there in your own communities, the meets will be held the 3rd Saturday of every month and the National Convention will be Held EVERY August starting in 2011

The meetings will be planned on a member rotation basis and will consist of prim/antique shopping outtings, craft classes, lunch or dinner outtings, attending
local prim shows and festivals together.. You know all the things our husbands refuse to do with us. So grab your spot NOW the 1st meeting(s) will be held on
Saturday August 21st.. The directors will plan the 1st meeting as a meet N Greet.

OUR PRIM FORUM IS STARTING CHAPTERS

APJ IS FORMING CHAPTERS IN ALL STATES.

Each chapter will have a Director and a Co-Director

Each Chapter will meet the 3rd Saturday of every month, each meeting will be planned by a different member of that particular chapter on a rotation basis, meetings can include primitive shopping, antique shopping, going out for lunch as a group, crafting day, crafting classes etc... whatever you can come up with that is FUN and agreed upon by your members.

The chapters are intended to bring together like minded
gals, for friendship, crafting, learning etc. I mean none of us
can ever have too many FRIENDS can we...

I want to establish the Chapters in the Larger cities of each state
so you can join the chapter closes to you. You can invite your friends to be members of your chapter BUT they must become a
member of APJ community 1st..

So in order to start setting up the chapters I need to know who all is interested in being part of an A Primitive Journey Chapter. A Chapter needs at least 4-5 members to be considered a chapter.

If You are interested in being a Director of a chapter please let me know that too, I will decide who the Directors will be, In order
to be a chapters Director you have to (A) been a member on this forum for at least 6 months and (B) Have at least 250 posts..

There will be a few rules to abide by when joining a chapter
but I promise It won't be nothing harsh..

I am going to be the CEO of all the APJ Chapters as well as the Indianapolis Chapters Director. I have already chosen my Co-Director.. ( Each Director will choose their own co-Director after meeting the members..)

And NO ONE may start an APJ chapter without my knowledge and written Permission... This is going to be HIGHLY promoted through several forms of media..

Then after each monthly meeting the director will come back to the forum and post the details and a pic or 2 of what they did.

Then once per year some time during the summer months we
will have an official A Primitive Journey Convention in a different state each time so that we ALL can get together and laugh, share, learn, and network together.. WHAT FUN!

ALL PAPERWORK, LOGOS ETC. RELATED TO APJ WILL BE COPYRIGHT PROTECTED...

My good friend Retha Simpson lost her life last week her husband murdered her because he thought she was having an affair and then he proceded to dismember her body burning part of it and disposed of her in a wooded area in plastic bags like
she was disposable trash.. I hope you rot in hell Scott Simpson ( Greensboro NC).

News and Happenings

Well for some reason this year I just never quite could get into the Holiday Spirit and Christmas is my favorite Holiday but this year just wasn't feeling it I was very bah hum bug this year, then 2 days before Christmas My Cousin Barbara Ann and her 18 year old son CJ who live in Tennessee were driving home from a drs appt when something went terribly wrong and she swerved to the right and hit a tree head on, there were airlifted to the larger hospital in Nashville, and both had injuries that were just beyond repair and they both died my family have all had very heavy hearts since then and Christmas was just no longer a top priority, Barbara was a few years older than me and was always a favorite of mine she could make you laugh and almost nothing her laugh was contagious and her smile made you feel welcome and comfortable
she was amazing and had hundreds of people attend the showing and funeral as proof
of her amazing personality she was just so loveable I will miss her beyond words.

And on to other heartbreaking news: I have decided to close down my website http:aprimitivejourney.com I have had it since 2005 and I had put everything I
had into that site but slow economy has taken its toll and I can no longer bear
the struggle of maintaining it, needless to say this has been another burden to
bear this Holiday Season which brought me to the decision to just give it up and
close it and I sure will miss my baby... Until next time Happy New Year to all!

I was at Goodwill yesterday and found this really old milk bottle for .99 I grabbed it up knowing instantly what I would do with it.. I came home and made myself an old
pantry eggnog label,and now have the bottle displayed for the holidays in my kitchen
on top of my old scale.. The label is in the widget box on the left feel free to use

We have always been a very traditional family having always had Thanksgiving dinner at my moms house, but this year 1 of my brothers decided for the family that we would
go to a restaurant this year instead of having our traditional Thanksgiving, I'm livid, what makes him think he can speak for the whole family, so my 83 year old mom
decided we would try it this year so not to upset the Holiday, WHAT!!!!! I'm so tempted to skip the whole ordeal as a protest but I would hate to upset or dissapoint
my mom.. Both of kids have informed me that they will make other plans this year because they don't want to participate in this CRAP!!!! What do I do.. go... not go... this particular brother is a total IDIOT~

Hope you enjoy the pictures we took while on vacation out west we went to Wichita
for a weekend visit with hubbies mom who has colon cancer.. :(
Then we went to Denver Colorado, Salt Lake City Utah and Cheyenne,Laramie and Cody Wyoming.. We had a wonderful time and being on the ground looking up at the mountains
in SLC with snow capping them while we were in Tshirts and no jackets I loved that
part..

Planning a Family Reunion and a new free label

Boy I can't believe its been over 2 weeks since I last blogged time sure can get away with you.. I'm currently planning a long over due family reunion for my mothers
side of the family and this is a 1st for me.. If anyone has any tips or ideas please let me know... seems no one else in the family was interested in putting together a family reunion seeing as how we haven't had one in about 12 years, so I decided it was long over due huh? I've done search after search for family reunion ideas on the net but I'm just not finding much short of all the many programs they want you to buy. How to make Orange and Clove Pomanders

Pomanders were originally metal or ivory filigree balls filled with spices fixed with ambergris, hence the name (from the French "pomme d'ambre", or apple of ambergris). Having a bowl of these fragrant oranges (or lemons) near an entryway or on a kitchen table is one of my favorite and easiest holiday decorating traditions. Prep time depends on how the size of the fruit; the smaller, the quicker it will harden and dry. P.S. - don't eat 'em - they're just for fragrance!
6 pomanders (change servings and units)

Ingredients
6 oranges (or lemons)
whole cloves
decorative ribbon
The Spice Mix
4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
4 tablespoons ground cloves
2 tablespoons ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons ground allspice
1/4 cup orrisroot powder (as preservative)

Directions

1 Combine the spice mix ingredients.
2 Wash oranges.
3 Insert cloves into oranges in a decorative pattern (stripes, swirls, whatever strikes your fancy!).
4 Roll cloved oranges in the spice mixture within 24 hours and set in a warm place to dry, turning fruit daily.
5 Drying takes from two weeks to possibly a month.
6 Pomanders are completely dry when they are hard.
7 Remove pomanders from the spice mix, dust off a little, and tie with decorative ribbons. Set out in a bowl, or you can use as Christmas ornaments.

Birthday droop

July 8th was my 45th birthday and I must say its got me kinda down I don't want to get old and crippled up I will go kicking and screaming all the way.. Why does age
effect us so much.. heck I remember 21 like it was just a couple of years ago.. What the heck happened.. I BLINKED.... My kids are grown, my grandbabies are growing like
weeds and people are dying all around me.. This makes me want to start my bucket list
for sure...there is so many things I've yet to see and do.. but yet I seem to be
speeding up with momentum towards the grave... If its a roller coaster I want off now... I feel like for the most part my life has gone by uneventful...(SIGH)

Taco Casserole

TACO CASSEROLE

1 bag of taco chips
1/2 lb. ground meat (your choice), browned and crumbly
1 container of light sour cream
1 bottle of Pace medium picante sauce
1 1/2 c. shredded light Cheddar
Casserole dish for baking
Shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, sliced black olives as topping

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Layer in casserole dish the following: crushed taco chips, ground meat, sour cream, picante sauce, shredded Cheddar. Repeat the layers until dish is filled. Cover with foil. Bake in oven until mixture is bubbly, about 30 minutes. Serve with shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes and sliced black olives as a topping.

Easy Burrito Pie

Burrito Pie

Servings: 16

"Ground beef, refried beans and tomatoes are combined with chiles and taco sauce, then layered in a casserole with tortillas and cheese, and baked."
Ingredients:
2 pounds ground beef
1 onion, chopped
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 (2 ounce) can black olives, sliced
1 (4 ounce) can diced green chili peppers
1 (10 ounce) can diced tomatoes with green chile peppers
1 (16 ounce) jar taco sauce
2 (16 ounce) cans refried beans
12 (8 inch) flour tortillas
9 ounces shredded Colby cheese

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, saute the ground beef for 5 minutes. Add the onion and garlic, and saute for 5 more minutes. Drain any excess fat, if desired. Mix in the olives, green chile peppers, tomatoes with green chile peppers, taco sauce and refried beans. Stir mixture thoroughly, reduce heat to low, and let simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
3. Spread a thin layer of the meat mixture in the bottom of a 4 quart casserole dish. Cover with a layer of tortillas followed by more meat mixture, then a layer of cheese. Repeat tortilla, meat, cheese pattern until all the tortillas are used, topping off with a layer of meat mixture and cheese.
4. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until cheese is slightly brown and bubbly.

There are 3 star and 3 flag bowl fillers. I have attached little pockets to the front of the stars and filled them with red pip berries and sweet annie. The flags have twine wrapped around them with a rusty bell attached, and sweet annie tucked begind the twine.They have all been aged for a beautiful prim look!!!

What a gloomy day it is, last night in POURED rain stormed and Hailed we woke up to the cracking of thunder and hail slamming our house..I thought the house was under attack.. scared the bejesus out of me today dark and dreary.. but I nice 75 degrees.
After today I'm on vacation for 11 days...what will I ever do with myself...We are planning on taking a long weekend trip to a little old town here in Indiana called
Madison right along the river with tons of primitive and antique shops... I can't wait. Have a happy Thursday everyone and if you haven't joined my prim forum yet

How to make Milk Paint

Now that we all know about the benefits of going green, I think more and more people are starting to question what exactly is in the products that we buy. One product that is quite toxic is paint, a product we all have in our homes. You don't have to buy a petroleum based paint though, you can make your own and have it be totally toxin free....I'm talking about milk paint.

Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You'll Need

Ready to mix milk paint
or
1 gallon skim milk
2 cups white vinegar
1/4 cup hydrated lime powder - Type S
1/2 cup pigment
water
Cheesecloth
Steps
1 Step One Click to enlargePowdered milk paint can be purchased and just mixed with water. This would be convientent but would cost about $36.00 a gallon. But making your own milk paint is relatively easy and would be half the cost of buying the ready mixed. The lime powder and the pigment is available at paint stores or even some craft stores. The results are amazing, flat muted color that resembles old world plaster. Many artists still use this ancient paint because of it's work ability and the tone of color.
2 Step Two Click to enlarge This recipe uses fresh milk that is curled by using the vinegar. By using the curdling method you have a stronger paint that is resistant to mold.
To begin: allow the milk to come to room temperature, but no warmer than 115 degrees. Pour the milk into a large container and add the 2 cups vinegar which starts the curdling process. Allow the mixture to sit overnight in a warm place stirring every once in awhile. The next day you'll be able to notice the milk solids separating from the liquid whey. Have everything ready prior to mixing in the pigment as milk paint should be used when it's fresh.

Three Click to enlarge Put the pigment powder in a plastic container and add an equal amount of water and allow the powder to soak. Begin to stir until you have worked the ingredients into a paste, set aside. Put the lime into a small container and add the 1-1/2 cups of water and stir until you have a smooth paste. Please wear a dust mask to do this step as you don't want to inhale the lime dust. Next you must pour the bucket of curds and whey thru a colander to separate. Wash the curd with water and allow to remain wet. Remove the curd or Quark from the colander and put into your paint bucket breaking up any larger pieces. Add the lime paste and stir well, then add the pigment. Again, stir well to dissolve any quark pieces. Strain the paint thru a piece of cheesecloth and your paint is ready to use. Stir the paint freguently as it tends to separate. If you have any extra paint and want to keep it, store in the refrigerator, it will keep for several days, although milk paint is best when used fresh. Since milk paint is a thin mixture, you may want to use more than one coat. After the paint is dry you can rub over it with fine steel wool or wax to give it a smooth, sealed finish.
Tips & Warnings
Since milk paint is made up of natural ingredients it is a safe product to use throughout your home. It can be used for walls and furniture and is a wonderful alternative to using petroleum based paint that contains caustic ingredients.

Well the weekend has unfortunately come to a close but I have had the best time ever
and got to meet so many wonderful new ladies..Friends....We laughed, laughed then laughed more, crafted an entire day visited wholesale shops and antique malls
got to go Hershey and Lancaster Pa... I have a ton of pictures to post when I get back home.. I'm in the hotel right now checked out and waiting for the shuttle to go back to the Airport and start my journey back HOME.. I'm ready I miss my hubby and my babies so much it is time... Well girls I will talk to you more from Indiana
and post a few pictures too.. until Then have a great Monday!

Leaving on Jet Plane....

Well I'm so excited tonight because tomorrow morning at 8am I will be boarding a plane bound for Lancaster Pa. for the 2009 primmart convention, meeting up with
some old friends and new friends 35 total for laughing, shopping, eating, crafting,
sharing, learning, a little partying and I can't wait the next 5 days I'm not going
to think about problems of any kind my mind is going to be an open book, and I'm going to have so much fun.. I will post pictures next Tuesday.. till then have a great weekend cause I KNOW I SURE WILL.

Hopefully my plane won't hit any birds and I land up in White River...

Luminary Jars

THIS PROJECT WAS FOUND AT GARDNERS WORLD...

You will need:Glass jars
Card
Sticky-backed plastic
Glass-frosting spray
Tea lights

Made from recycled glass jars, frosted with spray, these pretty garden lanterns are a cheap and easy way to give your garden a magical feel. Keep the design as simple as possible as this makes it easier to cut out the design and to remove the plastic after you've finished spraying.

How to do it Make a template out of card and use it to draw on the reverse side of the sticky-backed plastic. Cut out the plastic shapes and carefully stick them on to clean glass jars.
Spray the jars quickly and evenly with the frosting spray. Once fully dry, carefully remove the plastic to reveal the clear glass shapes.

TIPSY POTS

This is what I'm going to put together by my front steps

Tipsy Pot Materials:
-1 pipe or strong wooden dowel long enough to fit through all the pots you want to stack (may have to do a few test assemblies to determine this) plus enough length to firmly hammer the pipe into the ground (about a foot for every 2-3 foot of height above ground).

I like to use scrap pieces of 1/2" copper pipe. For what you see here, I used a four feet pipe. The pipe/dowel has to fit through the hole in the bottom of the pots but be strong enough to support all the pots.

-any pots or outdoor-friendly containers with holes in the bottom. The hole doesn't have to be in the middle of the container but needs to be wide enough to fit the pipe/dowel through. I used my clay pots but think of the possibilities: old aluminum teapots, coffee pots, kettles, cooking pots....Anything you can drill a hole in if it doesn't have one already. The larger the pot, the better the 'tipsy' effect.

-soil and plants, or whatever you want to stick in the pots

Assembly
-hammer the pipe/dowel into the ground until firmly in place.
-thread each pot through the pipe, one at a time, adding soil and plants as you go.
-each pot will find a good resting spot on the pot below. You'll get a feel for it as you go.

Make Your Own Stepping Stones

If your yard already has stepping stones or sidewalk blocks, perhaps you want to add a little pizzaz to them. Creating embelished stepping stones the easy way can be a lot of fun and cost very little.

Materials

Precast concrete garden stones (shape & size up to you)
Ceramic tiles, ceramic plates, or colored glass NOTE (1)(2)
Thin-set mortar
Poly-blend sanded tile grout (optional)
3/16 inch notched tile trowel
Rubber tile trowel or large square rubber spatula without a handle
Hammer or tile pincers
Safety glasses
Cardboard box or other container to break ceramic in
Old cloth or drop sheet to cover ceramic while breaking
Large bucket
Sponge
Rubber gloves (the heavy type you do dishes with will work)
Large pan or container (used to fill with water to submerge garden stones in)

In a large pan filled with water, immerse one concrete stone at a time to wet thoroughly NOTE (3).
Mix thin-set mortar according to package directions (consistency should be similar to slightly runny peanut butter). Using a notched trowel, spread a layer of mortar onto PART of the stone to a thickness of 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Arrange pieces as desired, pressing them lightly into the mortar. Leave spaces between the pieces for the grout. Add extra mortar under pieces as needed to create a fairly even surface. Clean away excess mortar from the surface and let dry overnight.
Mix grout according to package directions. Scoop a large amount onto the stone and using a spatula or trowel so spread it out and push it into gaps. Add more as needed and removing excess as you go. Smooth grout on the sides of the stone as well. Using a wet sponge, wipe down the top, going over the surface in both directions and rinsing the sponge often. Repeat, taking care not to remove too much grout from the gaps. Let the stone dry for 24 to 48 hours, buff with a dry cloth and place in the garden.

NOTE (1)~ Old plates, tiles and colored bottles broken in various shapes are some items that canmake up the decorative tops. To break these materials safely, put them in a shallow box or container and cover with a cloth to prevent shards from scattering. Wear safety glasses and using a hammer or tile pincers to break the materials into pieces.
NOTE (2)~ Use items such as shells, marbles, colored pebbles, jewels, china and ceramics to create your stepping stones. Mix, match and use your imagination.
NOTE (3)~ While working on one stone, place the next one in the water to soak.
